[Football] Wiseman Pick-Six Lifts Football Past Midland

Doane Football hit the road on Saturday as they traveled to Fremont to take on Midland. The Tigers forced five Warrior turnovers on the day as they posted a 24-13 win over Midland, snapping a four-game skid to the Warriors.Midland took their opening drive down to the red zone but was held out of the end zone and had to settle for a field goal. Following a 3-and-out, Midland took over again near midfield. On the first play, Cade Wiseman (FR/Sutton, Neb.) intercepted a pass attempt and raced 54-yards to the end zone to put the Tigers in front.Following a Midland 3-and-out on their next possession, Doane took over at their 20-yard line. On the first play, Frazzie Wynn (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) raced 54-yards into Warrior territory. The Tigers would get into the red zone but settled for a 30-yard field goal by Jeremy Henning (SR/Highlands Ranch, Colo.) for a 10-3 lead. Midland added a field goal on the final play of the 2nd quarter and Doane led 10-6 at the break.In the 3rd quarter, the only score came from the Tigers as Wynn scored on a 14-yard run. The Tigers started the drive in the red zone following a Joaquim Robinson (SR/Kearney, Neb.) interception. Doane extended the lead early in the 4th quarter as Lj Butler (FR/San Antonio, Texas) scored on a 4-yard touchdown run.Midland scored on the next possession to cap the scoring but not the battle. The Warriors took their next drive into the red zone only to be stopped on fourth down for a turnover on downs. Midland's last drive of the game ended when Damond Brown (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) intercepted a pass attempt. Doane would go into the victory formation to end the game.Doane finished the game with 186 team rushing yards, led by Wynn with 135. Butler added 41 yards as both running backs had a touchdown. Vaughn Martinez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) completed 11 passes to seven different receivers for 83 yards. Adam Wasserman (JR/Fairbury, Neb.) led the receivers with three receptions for 29 yards.Defensively, Mason Krause (SR/Lyndon, Kan.) and Ryan Michael (JR/Brea, Calif.) led the team with seven tackles apiece. Riley Heithoff (SR/Raymond, Neb.) added six tackles and a sack. Robinson finished with five tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Wiseman posted five tackles, an interception and two pass break-ups. Brown and Jackson Seward (SO/St. Paul, Neb.) added interceptions to give Doane four in the game. The Tigers now have 19 interceptions on the year, tied for the most in the NAIA.The season will conclude next week for the Tigers when they travel the short distance to take on Concordia in Seward. Kickoff for Saturday, November 6, is set for 1:00 PM.
