[Football] Football Season Closes Season at 5-5

Doane Football closed out their season on Saturday in Seward as they took on Concordia. The Bulldogs were able to rally and knock off the Tigers, 20-13. Doane finishes the season at 5-5.After a scoreless opening period, the Tigers struck on the first play of the 2nd quarter as Frazzie Wynn (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) scored on a five-yard run. Concordia answered on the ensuing drive to tie the game at 7-7. The score would remain tied going into the half.Concordia opened the second half with the ball and on the first play from scrimmage, Riley Homolka (SR/Wilber, Neb.) forced a fumble that was recovered by Damond Brown (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.). The Tigers were held on three plays but were able to come away with points as Caden Theis (SR/Osceola, Neb.) hit a 41-yard field goal.On Doane's next possession, they were able to put together 12 plays for 66 yards. Theis hit a 39-yard field goal to extend the Doane lead to 13-7.In the fourth quarter, Concordia took their first possession and drove the field 75 yards to tie the game on a fourth down conversion. The extra point was missed, leaving the score tied at 13-all. Three plays into the Tigers' next possession, Concordia was able to intercept the ball at the Doane-23 and take it back for a go-ahead score.Wynn led the Tigers with 87 yards on the ground while Lj Butler (FR/San Antonio, Texas) added 74 yards rushing. Vaughn Martinez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) completed 19 passes for 129 yards. Adam Wasserman (JR/Fairbury, Neb.) was his top target, bringing in seven receptions for 40 yards while Izaiah Celestine (SR/Stockton, Calif.) finished with three catches for 26 yards. Eight different players had a reception in the game.Mason Krause (SR/Lyndon, Kan.) led the Tiger defense with 10 tackles on the day, including four tackles for loss. Riley Heithoff (SR/Raymond, Neb.) added nine tackles, including a 0.5 tackle for loss to give him 17.5 on the season, second-most in the Doane record books. Damond Brown added an interception to his fumble recovery as the Tigers had two takeaways in the game.
