[Football] Turnovers Costly in Loss for Tiger Football

Doane Football dropped their second game of the season on Saturday with a 29-26 loss to Dakota Wesleyan on Homecoming. The loss sets the Tigers back with a 2-2 mark while DWU moved to 1-3 on the season.Turnovers proved to much to overcome for Doane as they committed five in the game, including one on each of their final three possessions after DWU took the lead with 10 minutes to play in the game.Dakota Wesleyan put the only points on the board in the first quarter with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Zachary Lester to Daniel Libolt. Late in the second quarter, the Tigers were able to get on the board behind a one-yard run by Jamaine Derogene (SR/Dunedin, Florida). The extra point was missed and Doane trailed 7-6. DWU came right back and scored on a 44-yard pass by Lester to Spencer Neugebauer. On the ensuing kickoff, Doane's Gamble Moore (JR/Azle, Texas) posted a 78-yard kickoff return to set up a six-yard touchdown run by Adam Wasserman (SO/Fairbury, Neb.) and Doane trailed at halftime, 14-13.In the third quarter, DWU once again was the only team to score as Lester and Neugenbauer connected for a 13-yard touchdown with 29 seconds left. Doane needed little time to respond as they scored two minutes into the fourth quarter on a 30-yard run by Jacobi White (SR/Grapevine, Texas). The Tigers' two-point try missed and they trailed 21-19.On the first play of the next DWU drive, Cedric Gooch Jr. (JR/Wylie, Tex.) intercepted a pass in DWU territory. Three plays later Wasserman found Josh Baker (SR/Omaha, Neb.) in the back of the end zone to take a 26-21 lead. Dakota Wesleyan came back on their next drive to regain the lead on a six play drive. On third down, they received a 23-yard run from Jamin Arend. Arend was tackled with his knee touching the turf, however, it was missed and DWU was in front.Doane's final drives ended with a pair of DWU interceptions and a fumble recovery on a muffed punt.The Tigers out-yarded DWU for the game, 316-282, including 219-50 in rushing yards. Wasserman led Doane with 85 yards rushing on 17 carries. Derogene finished with 75 yards on 20 attempts and White had 73 yards on 14 rushes. Kaden Reimers (SR/Palmer, Neb.) posted three catches for 55 yards and Baker added three receptions for 42 yards.DWU received 139 receiving yards from Neugenbauer on 12 receptions. Lester completed 27 passes for 232 yards and three scores. Arend led DWU with 42 rushing yards on nine carries. On the defensive side, Samuel Kretschmar finished with 11 tackles and Tziah Owens added nine. Jacob Zamora had two of the team's four interceptions.Doane's defense was led by Damond Brown (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) with 10 tackles. Ryan Lasauskas (JR/Omaha, Neb.) and Christian Harring (JR/Falls City, Neb.) added seven tackles apiece. The Tiger defense collected two interceptions, one from Gooch and one from Joaquim Robinson (SR/Kearney, Neb.).The Tigers will have a week off before traveling to Sioux Center, Iowa, to take on Dordt on October 17.
