[Football] Pharms Selected as Finalist for 2019 Cliff Harris Award

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Friends University senior defensive lineman Jeremiah Pharms has been chosen as a finalist for the 2019 Cliff Harris award, an honor presented to the nation's top small college defensive player out of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA colleges and universities .Named after Cliff Harris, a former Ouachita Baptist University student-athlete and six-time Pro Bowler with the Dallas Cowboys, the overall award winner will be announced Dec. 27 and given at the Little Rock Touchdown Club's annual awards banquet on Jan. 9, 2020.Pharms, a unanimous All-KCAC performer, is an NAIA-AFCA and AP first-team All-America selection this season."We are extremely proud of Jeremiah and he is very deserving of all the recognition he has received," Friends head coach Dion Meneley said. "Jeremiah came to us as an outside linebacker, but made the conversion to defensive line seamlessly. He had the goal of being an All-American this year and played his tail off every week to earn these honors."A native of Stockton, Calif., Pharms recorded 2.5 sacks in the Falcons' season finale 20-13 win at Ottawa University (Nov. 9) to give him a school record 14.5 overall for the year.Pharms' sack total ranked second in the KCAC and he also paced the league in tackles for loss per game (2.6).The most productive outing for Pharms came against Tabor College (9/21) when he produced a career-high five sacks along with seven tackles.For more information on the award, go to www.cliffharrisaward.com.
