[Football] Football Downed by Defenders

Doane Football traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday to take on Dordt University. The Tigers struck first behind a big defensive play, however, the Defenders scored 30 unanswered points to post a 44-19 win over Doane.Dordt started the game with the ball and drove downfield before Damond Brown (SR/Phoenix, Ariz.) intercepted a Noah Clayberg pass and raced 82 yards to the Defender 3-yard line. On Doane's first offensive play of the game, Jacobi White (SR/Grapevine, Texas) ran into the end zone for a 6-0 lead. The extra point attempt missed.The Defenders came back to score on their next four possessions behind Clayberg. The all-conference candidate ran for three touchdowns and threw for one to give Dordt a 27-6 lead at the half.The second half scoring opened with a Dordt 32-yard field goal. Doane came back and found the end zone late in the 3rd quarter behind the running of Frazzie Wynn (SO/Lincoln, Neb.). He posted a 28-yard run to take the Tigers into Dordt territory and then found the end zone for his first touchdown, scoring from 13 yards out. The Tigers missed on the extra point attempt and trailed 30-12 after three quarters.In the 4th quarter, Dordt scored on their first two possessions to take a 44-12 lead. Doane scored on their final possession of the quarter as Adam Wasserman (SO/Fairbury, Neb.) scored from one-yard out. The drive was set-up on a strip-sack by Riley Heithoff (SR/Raymond, Neb.) and a fumble recovery by Mason Krause (JR/Lyndon, Kan.).Dordt finished with 528 yards of total offense while Doane was held to 162 yards. The Tigers had 139 yards on the ground, led by Wynn with 57 yards on four carries (14.2/att.). Doane finished with 23 passing yards as Josh Baker (SR/Omaha, Neb.) had a reception for 16 yards and Kaden Reimers (SR/Palmer, Neb.) had one for seven yards. Gamble Moore (JR/Azle, Texas) finished with 103 yards on five kickoff returns.Donte Wiggins (SO/Colorago Springs, Colo.) led the defense with 11 tackles with Ryan Lasauskas (JR/Omaha, Neb.) and Riley Heithoff in on eight apiece. Heithoff and Wyatt Bodfield (SR/Crete, Neb.) had one sack apiece. The Tigers finished the game, plus-3 in the turnover battle.Dordt received 103 rushing yards from Carter Schiebout. Clayberg threw for 230 yards and one touchdown while Levi Jungling had eight receptions for 137 yards and a score. The defense was led by Josh Mrazek and Jessup Leakey as they recorded six tackles apiece. Colyn Oostenick had two sacks for the Defenders as they picked up five as a team.Doane returns home on Saturday, October 24, as they play host to Northwestern College at 1 PM. The Tigers will honor their seniors prior to the game.
