[Football] Saint Xavier shuts out St. Francis, 7-0

CHICAGO – Freshman quarterback Stuart Ross (Springfield, Ill./Springfield Southeast) connected with freshman wide receiver Kyle Quinn (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) for a 10-yard touchdown with 2:26 remaining the first quarter for the lone score of the game in a 7-0 victory for Saint Xavier University football (5-3, 3-2 MSFA) in Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League action over University of St. Francis (Ill.), Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. It was the first shutout by the Cougars since September 16, 2017, a 45-0 triumph over Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) also at Deaton Field. Prior to the game seniors Jarvis Carter (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East), Mike Hyland (Burbank, Ill./St. Laurence), Mike Iturbe (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) and Patrick Olson (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) were joined by their parents for the coin toss as they will graduate next month. The game started out cloudy and rain moved in late in the 2nd quarter and remained until the conclusion of the game.
