CHICAGO – Senior linebacker Joey Markasovic (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League Defensive Player of the Year for the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University football team (9-3, 7-0 MSFA Midwest) team when the awards were announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Markasovic led the Cougar defense with 96 tackles (38 solos) in 12 games, along with a team-best 10.0 tackles for loss (TFL) for 31 yards, three quarterback hurries, two interceptions for 66 yards, two pass breakups, 1.0 sack for nine yards, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He was also one of 17 players from Saint Xavier to be named to the All-MSFA Midwest League Team.
