Trio of Toreros Earn Academic All-PFL Honors

Linebacker Garrett Carney earned 2023 Academic All-PFL First Team honors as part of three total end-of-year conference academic awards for San Diego Football, the Pioneer Football League announced on Wednesday afternoon. Carney headlined the Toreros' performance in the classroom by posting a 3.71 GPA as a Computer Science major, good for USD's lone academic First Team nod. The Sammamish, Washington native was a Second Team selection last season. Wide receiver Re-al Mitchell and defensive back Eric Haney both earned their second consecutive Academic All-PFL Second Team honor. Mitchell had a 3.63 GPA while pursuing a graduate degree in Leadership Studies, and Haney recorded a 3.53 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major.
