McCarthy Honored on Shrine Bowl 1000 for Second Consecutive Season

For the second consecutive season, East Stroudsburg University defensive end Deshawn McCarthy has been selected to the 2024 East West Shrine Bowl 1000, which honors the top players  among all levels of college football, the organization announced on Monday.

McCarthy, a 2021 AFCA All-America and a two-time All-PSAC East First Team selection, enters his senior season in 2023 looking to make noise on the Warrior defensive line.

Last season, McCarthy registered 36 tackles, including six sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, which led ESU. Among the top pass rushers in program history, his 25 career sacks rank fifth all-time, just eight behind all-time leaders Des Hussey (1991) and Joe Ruedt (1992). Additionally, McCarthy is tied for ninth in program history with five forced fumbles.

McCarthy was the lone representative from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference listed on the Shrine Bowl 100 and is one of just nine players from NCAA Division II.
