ESU Ranks No. 42 in LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Fall Standings

CLEVELAND – Following an NCAA Championship runner-up performance in field hockey and an NCAA playoff appearance in football, NACDA and LEARFIELD announced on Thursday that the East Stroudsburg University athletic department ranks No. 42 among 155 ranked NCAA Division II institutions following the fall season in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings.

Warriors field hockey finished the 2023 campaign with an 18-3 overall record. With an overtime goal by NFCA National Player of the Year Jady van Gils, the Warriors took down Shippensburg, 2-1, to win the program's fourth PSAC title on Nov. 5. ESU advanced to the National Championship game for the second consecutive season, falling to Kutztown, 2-1. For its second-place national finish, field hockey contributed 90 points toward ESU's total of 115.

ESU football returned to the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2009, finishing the campaign with a 9-3 record. After a 4-7 record in 2022, ESU alumnus Jimmy Terwilliger '07 guided the Warriors back to the NCAA Playoffs with a five-win improvement.  ESU's three losses on the season came against NCAA Playoff foes on the road in Kutztown, Shepherd, and Slippery Rock. The Warriors' nine wins are the most since 2008 and 2023 marks the ninth time the Warriors registered at least nine wins in a season in program history. Football contributed 25 points to ESU's total with the NCAA playoff appearance.
