Trey Thomas Named GSC Defensive Player of the Week

ROME, Ga. — Trey Thomas was the spark that lit the fuse on Shorter's 57-20 victory over Chowan University. Thomas, a junior from Oak Leaf High School in Jacksonville, FL has been a starter since his freshman year with the Hawks defense. "Trey always plays with great energy and enthusiasm and is a positive outlet for players on both side of the ball. He is a great motivator, and I am proud of him and his performance," stated Head Football Coach Zach Morrison. Thomas was able to finish the day with 2 interceptions, 1 tackle and 1 QBH. His first interception went 76 yards for a touchdown. He is also responsible for an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown and capped off the day with returning a blocked PAT for a 2-point conversion. Defensive Coordinator Harlen Jacobs said of Thomas, "Trey is a playmaker and was able to showcase that on Saturday. I am looking forward to seeing him continue to work to be better each week." Trey is the first Shorter Hawks player to Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week since linebacker Zach Butts in Week 3 of the 2015 season.
