Trey Thomas Named D2 Football: Special Teams National Player of the Week

ROME, Ga. — Another amazing honor for Junior Defensive Back, Trey Thomas as he was named D2Football.com National Special Teams Player of the Week. Thomas, from Oak Leaf High School in Jacksonville, Florida has been a starter since his freshman year with the Hawks defense. "I believe this is the first time in the history of the program we have had someone win this honor. I am so proud of Trey, his faith, attitude, toughness and effort are what this program stands for! He brings great enthusiasm and is a positive outlet for players on both side of the ball," stated Head Football Coach Zach Morrison. Thomas was able to finish the day with 2 interceptions, 1 tackle and 1 QBH. His first interception went 76 yards for a touchdown. He is also responsible for an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown and capped off the day with returning a blocked PAT for a 2-point conversion.  Defensive Coordinator Harlen Jacobs said of Thomas, "I am very proud of Trey on and his play on special teams as well as defense.  Trey is a playmaker and was able to showcase that on Saturday. I am looking forward to seeing him continue to work to be better each week." Special Teams Coordinator, Coach Ryne Strickland stated, "It is an amazing honor for Trey but also for the entire unit! We have a high standard on special teams and I am excited to see continued growth throughout the season bringing a Brick by Brick mentality each day."
