Season Review: 2019 Football

SIGNATURE WIN: While the Monarchs' 37-33 win on Senior Day against LaGrange was definitely high on theatrics (Methodist registered four fourth-down stops to win a game that featured six lead changes), Methodist's 24-23 win against Brevard stands out as the signature win of the season for head coach Keven Williams and his Monarch squad. The October 12, Play 4 Kay game saw Methodist escape with the victory after Brandon Bullins engineered a fourth-quarter comeback, finding Xzavier McNeil down the seam for a 48-yard touchdown with 27 seconds remaining. The extra point just added to the dramatics as Trevor Hargett nailed the game-winning point-after try despite a bad snap/hold — literally kicking the ball of the turf with his best impression of a soccer penalty kick. Bullins' performance against the Tornados was his coming-out party, passing for 343 yards with two touchdowns on 31 completions for his first game-winning drive of his career. The 343 yards were the most by a Monarch since 2016 while his 31 completions were the most since 2014. McNeil found his way into the program record books by finishing with a MU-record 14 receptions. He had 197 receiving yards for two touchdowns. All three Brevard touchdowns were plays of at least 44 yards, including a 79-yard pass, but it was McNeil's 48-yarder that stood as the game-winning touchdown.
