From intern to defensive coordinator, Mike Macdonald ‘grew up as a coach’ with the Ravens

Mike Macdonald is technically the first outsider John Harbaugh has hired as Ravens defensive coordinator, but he “grew up as a coach” in the organization before taking a year away to work for Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, at Michigan. That familiarity, combined with precocious teaching ability, earned the 34-year-old Macdonald his new job.
