Football Preview: Blue Devils/Blugolds to clash Saturday night in War on I-94 battle in 100th meeting

UW-Stout will stay at home for the second of three home games and open the WIAC schedule Saturday, Oct. 1. And what better way to open the conference schedule by hosting nearby UW-Eau Claire in the annual War on I-94. Plus, this week's game will also be the 100th meeting between the two teams. The rivalry began on Oct. 26, 1917, with the Blue Devils taking a 49-0 win in Menomonie. Over the years, the teams have played a few series of rivalry games, playing for the Little Brown Jug in the 1930s and again in the 1950s. The War on I-94 games began in 2008 and Stout holds a 9-4 record, winning the last six games. Overall, Eau Claire holds a 53-40-6 lead in the series.
