[Football] Point Soars to the Top for Senior Day against Bluefield

West Point, Ga. – The Point defense had four interceptions and one fumble recovery, and the offense scored 24 first half points to propel the Skyhawks to a 24-6 win over the Bluefield Rams on senior day. Bluefield took the opening kickoff, but on the first play of scrimmage Trenton Stringer (SR/Lanett, Al.) intercepted a pass at the Bluefield's 45 yard line. On the ensuing drive MarQuez Jackson (SR/Lawrenceville, Ga.) carried the ball into the end zone for the first touchdown of the day, giving the Skyhawks the lead 7-0. The Rams receive the ball again after the kickoff, but after only 3 plays Jordan Bell (JR/Jacksonville, Fla.) intercepted another pass to give the ball back to the Skyhawks. The Skyhawks were able to drive the ball inside the 5 yard line but penalties stalled the drive and Wesley Rubiera (SR/Sandersville, Ga.)'s 23 yard field goal split the uprights to raise Point's lead to 10-0 over the Rams with just little over 2 minutes left in the first quarter. Starting the second quarter, the Skyhawk quarterback, Keenan Wise (SO/Atlanta, Ga.) threw a pass to Chris Jones (FR/Ware County, Ga.), but it was intercepted by the Rams defense. Connor Romo (SO/Dalton, Ga.) recovered a fumble on Bluefield's next drive giving the Skyhawks the ball back with 9:15 left on the clock. Micah Maxey (SO/Lawrenceville, Ga.) then passed the ball to C.J. Henderson (JR/Albany, Ga.), who scampered across the goal line for a 15 yard touchdown pass to raise the lead to 17-0. On Point's next drive, the Rams forced a fumble by MarQuez Jackson to turn the ball over to Bluefield after only gaining 9 yards on the drive. However, Point, playing in their last home game, retaliated with a recovered fumbled of their own by Quentin Eagle (FR/Atlanta, Ga.). Bluefield's defense held Point to only 4 yards and forced them to punt on the drive. The Rams were intercepted again on their drive by Quan Neal (SO/Cedartown, Ga.), who returned the ball 28 yards to the Bluefield 15 yard line. With 15 seconds on the clock, Wise carried the ball in the end zone for what would be the last Skyhawk touchdown of the day, to give them the lead 24-0 going into the halftime. After the break both teams were scoreless in the third quarter, but Neal did get his second interception of the day with about 6 minutes left on the clock. At 11:15 in the 4th quarter, Zach Hammond (SR/Griffin, Ga.) was intercepted again by the defense. The Rams following drive resulted in their only touchdown of the day, putting them on the board 24-6, after a failed two point conversion. Neither team was able to score again with the final score staying at 24-6. The Skyhawks record moves to 4-2 in the MSC and 5-6 overall. This is the most wins for Skyhawk football in 5 years.
