Football Hosts Conference Power Huntingdon for Crucial Catch Game on Saturday

The Brevard College football team (3-1, 1-1 USAS) is looking to bounce back from their first loss of the 2019 season when the Tornados host three-time USA South Conference champion Huntingdon College (3-2, 2-0 USAS) on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. at a Brevard Memorial Stadium.

The game serves as Brevard’s “Crucial Catch” game, which follows in line with the National Football League’s month-long efforts to raise awareness for cancer during the month of October. For more information on the NFL’s Crucial Catch, please click here.

The Tornados – who are off to their best start to a season since 2009 – will look to bounce back from a heartbreaking 24-23 defeat last weekend at the hands of in-state opponent Methodist. In last Saturday’s game, Brevard watched a six-point, 23-17 lead slip away in the final seconds when the Monarchs completed a 49-yard touchdown pass with just 27 seconds remaining to tie the game. Methodist sealed its victory with an extra point and a defensive stand on Brevard’s final drive.

Huntingdon is coming off back-to-back conference victories over Methodist (48-7) and Maryville College (45-35) in consecutive weekends.   The Hawks’ high-powered offense, led by 15th-year Head Coach Mike Turk and a veteran offense, has posted 46.5 points-per-game in their two conference contests – averaging 457.5 offensive yards-per-game in those two affairs. Huntingdon’s offense ranks second in the USA South in total offensive yards-per-game (398.6 ypg).
