Augie football 2022 season review

Like the previous three seasons, the Augustana Vikings football team opened up their 2022 campaign with a victory, making it four-straight season-openers resulting in a win. In a home game to start the year on September 3, the Vikings jumped out to a 31-7 halftime lead over the Rhodes Lynx, holding off a late comeback attempt from the visitors to result in a 34-28 Augie victory. The Vikings offense set the tone for a successful season on that side of the ball, tallying 355 yards of offense. Cole Bhardwaj began his junior season with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win, resulting in the CCIW's first player of the week honor. The 34 points scored would eventually equal the Vikings' points per game average in 2022, the highest average scoring output in a season from an Augustana football team in over a decade.
