ACU partners with Big Country CASA for community service

ACU athletics and Imago Dei ("Image of God"), the name of the weekly chapel meetings for student-athletes to discuss matters of racial equality and biblical justice, have partnered to facilitate the start of a community service partnership between ACU and Big Country CASA. Big Country CASA ("Court Appointed Special Advocate") is a non-profit organization that serves foster kids in our area. As a department-wide initiative, ACU Athletics would like to raise awareness about local foster care and educate the Abilene community about the important work of Big Country CASA. CASA advocates for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the court system through trained community volunteers. When a CASA volunteer is appointed to a foster care case, they get to know the child and talk to family members and other adults in the child's life to find out what they need to heal and thrive. Volunteers make recommendations in court on the child's behalf, serving as a liaison between foster kids, their families and judges. The CASA remains by the child's side for the duration of their time in foster care.
