actually and this is odd.. but i'd like LESS callers... so many of them are reptitive... asking about the same teams and leagues.

Well lets see, the way my schedule is I get to hear only three shows. I get to hear The First Team with Steve Czaban (this is actually the last show I hear, and I only get the first hour, cause my radio 790, goes to local programming), I hear Gametime React with JT the Brick, and I hear The Third Shift with Big Ben Maller, and the lovely Karen Kay...

The First Team- Wish I could hear more of this show, but when I get off work, I just want to go to sleep, but this show is great. I love the sound of the typewritter when they are doing headlines, that is just comical, then after he gives his take on things around the country and world, he plays the sound bite from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation which is just funny, and actually right after that is when I lose the show, and my shift for that night ends.

Gametime React- I actually will not be listening to this show anymore, not trying to go off on a rant, but I will just say that JT rubbed me the wrong way on and exchange of e-mails we had, and I believe that he should not have come out and said anything about the Kiffin firing, he could have let Looney run that part of the show, because it was a big story, but I do not think he was fair to callers, he would cut them off anytime they would start to disagree with Al's move, and he would even hang up on them, since he is collecting a check from Al Davis, he should have been more of a professional and removed himself from this story...but that is just me. I have actually moved down the dial and will be listening to the replay of Bill O'Reily's show until Ben Maller or Chris Plank come on, and I know that this will not hurt JT's feelings, because of his ego, but that is what I am doing from this point on.

The Third Shift- I really don't think I have heard a bad show since I have started listening to this. When Ben had to be away, or if he has a day off, weather it be Fricke, or whoever they put in to fill the big chair, Karen, Greg and Vlad help that host to continue to move the needle on this show. On Friday's when Chris Plank is on, that show is great as well, this show through the week is so entertaining that the four hours move so fast, that you wish that Fox would give them six hours and take two hours away from JT. I will always be a loyally listener to this show, because they let you speak, they read your e-mails, they read your text, and they just like the First Team interact well with the callers and don't jump all over them, but if you do try and "sabatoge" the show, they will get you. The Third Shift Rocks

good post.

like the 3rd shift as well. like the concept of the team being involved and having fun.

something espn misses is that team concept and not just the host is the star

Czab's said this morning that if the Rays get into the World Series he was NOT going to watch it...JT is busy calling people idiots tonight and hanging up on them ...so very not cool. The caller said JT was out of touch because he lived in the West Coast in regards to the Rays-Red Sox series...the guy tried to engage him back and forth as to why...got trashed...and then of course on cue Looney mentions JT was just in Tampa Bay...yeah...I get it Tomm...one quickie visit there and JT is a scholar! UNREAL. I was a pretty devote listener to ESPN Radio for years and years...I've met Mike & Mike in Atlantic City...got the signed pic and all...but then I found myself splitting time between the shows on both networks...the reason I switched to Czab's in the morning is that he seems to be a helluva closer to a lunch-pail kind of guy than Mike & Mike are. Being in a wheelchair most of the day, being homebound for the most part, and doing sports talk myself I try and listen to as many different shows as I can to get a feel for what connects what the public...and I've found over the past year I've almost become a total FSR convert...but I won't let that happen...because I feel there is something for me to enjoy and learn off of both networks and their various personalities. Lately I've been giving Shemon & Washington a try over Colin Cowherd...at this point I'm calling it a toss-up...the 2 shows have 2 completely different approaches and styles. But one thing I can say across the board...I thoroughly enjoy radio over television hands down. Vin Scully and Kalas doing the NLCS on the radio? PRICELESS! I plan on alternating them on the radio... Scully then Kalas then back to Scully as long as the series goes...I'll mute the TV announcers thank you. And of course whenever Fricke and Landry are on I try to listen. As far as during the time from noonish on 1400am here in Scranton, Pa. I listen to The Jim Rome show until 3pm when Sean Parnum and Chris Myers come on...then it's Siciliano and Krystal Fernandez. I used to listen to Dan Patrick's show when he was still with ESPN...for a time Rob Dibble co-hosted with him. But when he left ESPN I went over to Fox and Rome and Myers...Dan Patrick has his own site now and I think he does his live show with KLAC in Los Angeles in the mornings...I haven't listened to it much though...I keep forgetting he's on..I'll have to bookmark his site. So needless to say there is a plethora of shows out there to choose from...so make your choices and enjoy them.

I will try and keep this post as respectful as I can per John's request. We have seen 2 games of the World Series so far and I must admit as a baseball purist and life-time fan of baseball that so far this is a VERY enjoyable series...Now my question is this? What is wrong with Tomm (not mis-spelled) Looney and his comment when asked by JT about it that "This is not 1949 and people are not sitting around the radio"? Followed by further busting about safety squeezes and other stratagems used by baseball managers to try and gain an edge in the game. He quickly deferred to how the NFL is number one anymore, (and ratings-wise I'm sure it is), but TRUE baseball fans have to be enjoying this series. Ive been a staunch Yankee, Jet, 49er, and Knick fan since I've been a little S**T-Head! But just because this isn't the perfect match for Fox or moreso Looney personally doesn't mean it should be tossed to the side. Wake up Looney...maybe it's not 1949...but there are real fans of the sport out here...don't insult us with your insulting drops about days when people only had baseball and a radio to enjoy it by. I was born in 1957...so I missed that era in sports...but I can damn sure remember when baseball was ALL I had as a kid...and we had a black and white TV because we were too poor to afford a colored one. I used to put tin-foil on our rabbit earred antenna to try and get better reception...most times it didn't work. So I listened to some of the great broadcasters on the radio...Mel Allen and the such. YOU of all people who make your LIVING in radio and media should not be so quick to insult the past generations that enjoyed those times with their families. Totally ignorant commentary on your part. But it not the first time you have insulted people. It seems to be a habit with you. And JT...Maddon is from up here in Hazelton...he'll handle the pressure just fine. Don't run the Phillie fans on him...he's WAY ahead of you on that take.
