The draft I had last night I had the 10 pick in a 10 team league.....Fitz went 7, after Brady and before LT......I took Brees and Andre Johnson back to back....I then picked up Boldin with the 30 pick and Welker with the 31st....then I grabbed Lynch at 50 and Ray Rice at 51....Big Ben at 70, and the Steelers D at 71.....I then grabbed Jamal Lewis at 90 and Earnest Graham at 91....Winslow at 110 and Zach Miller at 111.....I handcuffed at 130 by grabbing Fred Jackson and then I took Norwood at 131....then I took Harvin at 150, and Gould with my last pick at 151....so I was happy with my draft

Was the league PPR or something? Or heavily favored receiving yards somehow?
While I don't dislike the Brees/Johnson combo in your first picks, you then take two number two receivers at 30 and 31? I mean, granted, these are THE BEST two number two receivers on the board, but still, number two receivers. I'd be interested in seeing what the first 29 picks were that you couldn't take maybe a running back instead of one of these two guys? I like Welker/RB or Boldin/RB far better than WR/WR. But RB/RB I think would have been best since you're already locked in on a top three wide receiver. Moreover, yes, you finally pick up your two running backs at 50/51, and Marshawn Lynch may have a surprisingly good year with T.O. there to hopefully help open up running lanes, the Ravens can't seem to settle on a running back, so I don't know that I like Ray Rice all that much. And then 70/71, while I don't have a problem taking Steelers' D here, I do have a problem taking Roethlisberger. You have a top 3 quarterback on your roster already, and while yes, it's good to have a back up for him in case he goes down, at this point, I doubt there's anyone on the board who can really fill that void. Meanwhile, there are probably running backs on the board you should probably be investing in. Marshawn Lynch should have a big year, but who knows. Ray Rice? That's going to depend on who is getting the carries in Baltimore. Point is, you can't be real sure on how these guys will perform, and while the same can be said for any player, there's not a reasonably high expectation out of these running backs. What does that mean? Pick a couple more. Pick enough average running backs, and you're bound to take the usually average guy that ends up with a breakout year. My draft strategy generally is to back up my earliest drafted positions last and latest drafted positions first--assuming it's one of the positions you generally draft back ups for. For instance, you drafted WRs and a QB with your first four picks, so I fill the rest of my depth chart (except possibly kicker) and secure some RB back ups before I even draft a second quarterback. I may pick a 4th WR somewhere in there in a league that starts 3 WRs, but that's only if I find someone that's dropping way too far. On the flip, suppose I somehow manage to get Frank Gore and Steve Slaton with my first two picks. I'm going to draft at least 6 more picks before I take another running back.

In your first draft, I actually spend my first two round picks on Frank Gore and Steve Slaton. I have both of those players as definite top tens, PPR or not. In PPR leagues, these guys actually get a decent bump up.
I can see taking one or the other paired with Drew Brees especially since another QB (Tom Brady) is off the board. This secures you a top 3 quarterback and you don't have to worry about drafting another quarterback until round 9 or 10 or so. But then you take Roethlisberger in round 7, when you could have waited until round 9 or 10 and grabbed Hasselbeck, whose weapons have improved this season--and you don't have to have a reliable backup, since you took Drew Brees in round 1. It's not even like you took Aaron Rodgers, who is arguably top 5, but in some weeks against certain defenses, you might start another quarterback. The Saints rely on their short pass game to make up for their lack of a run game. Barring injury, you should only be starting Roethlisberger during the Saints' bye week. The Saints have the bye week during week 5. Pittsburgh plays Detroit week 5. Good match up? Sure. But the defensive team that the Saints are, you'd rather have their running backs this week than anyone from their passing offense. Meanwhile, instead of backing up a surefire every week starter with an above average fantasy starting quarterback, you could have backed up a couple mediocre running backs with a super explosive 2nd team running back with no ceiling in sight--Felix Jones. You can't take Felix Jones early in any draft, because it's completely unclear what Dallas is going to do with him and how consistent of a scorer he is, but having waited until the 5th and 6th rounds before drafting even my first running back, I think in the 7th/8th I go ahead and take the gamble on Felix. And yeah, I probably go ahead and take Grant instead of Welker in 3/4.

In your second draft, pick 10 in trade-baiting. He took Brees/Brady back to back. He's not going to keep both of those players on his roster past week 1. He wants to trade one of them, he's just waiting to find out which player gets screwed out of a quarterback.
Larry Fitzgerald is hard to argue with at pick 6 in a PPR. Again, I do think that Frank Gore and Steve Slaton are two running backs that are right there about equivalent value with Fitz, PPR or not. So that said, picks 7-13 dropped the ball in your second draft. And 14 finally found Slaton, what a steal. Anyway, as far as your picks. As I said, Frank Gore, especially in PPR, is definitely a top 10 pick, so when it comes to you at the 15th pick, and you already spent your first pick on a WR, I'm taking Frank Gore here so fast it's not even funny. If Reggie Wayne is still on the board in the 3rd round, you pretty much can't not take him, even if you already have 2 receivers. It's hard not to take a running back in round 4, after taking receivers in the first 3 rounds, but had we taken a look at Gore in round two, and suppose our roster is now Fitzgerald, Gore, Wayne, well... Bowe is still available in the 4th round. The number 1 receiving target, the next big, big, big time receiver, in a PPR league... But, having said that, Pierre Thomas, while a solid pick based on the running backs available, I don't know how much I like it in round 4 as your first overall pick. Honestly, here, I think I might be trying to talk to Rock Pounder and see about a trade involving Fitzgerald and Brees/Brady, and then go ahead and pick up Bowe in the 4th round. Also, I'm not sure how high I am on Jay Cutler, really. It's not a terrible pick there, but let's take a look at what QBs are still on the board when you make this pick. Jay Cutler, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, Ben Roethlisberger, Donovan McNabb, Matt Hasselbeck -- as far as draftable picks. There are 6 QBs on the board in a 10-team league 5 teams already have a quarterback (and one of those already has two). And I'm not suggesting Cutler isn't the best option of those 6, he may be. But I am suggesting it's certainly not a huge drop off to the next best of that group...so you can afford to select maybe another player here and still get good value for your quarterback. Remember, drafting isn't just saying "Hmm, I need this position NOW." You also have to consider what everyone else is going to draft and get good value for your picks.
